ADN
The Allgemeine Deutsche Nachrichtendienst (ADN) was the only official news and photography agency in the GDR, along with the foreign press agency Panorama DDR. It had a monopoly on supplying all media with news, reports, articles and photos of a national character. ADN was founded in 1946 and existed until 1992. The ADN-Zentralbild archive, which contains some seven million photographs dating back to the early years of photography, was transferred to the Federal Archives in Koblenz in 1992.
The photos from Bulgaria were taken by unnamed ADN photographers in November 1950.
In 1950-1951 approximately 150 000 Turks from Bulgaria were expelled to Turkey. The photos show emigrants at the border and in Sofia, waiting for their travel documents.
